An increasing number of operating oil companies realise the necessity and usefulness of being a member company of the KPD Centre. The number of member companies has increased from 9 to 15 over the last 12 months. New member companies in this period include Det norske oljeselskap, Wintershall, Lundin, Noreco, GdF Suez and Eni.
The KPD Centre operates the CHEMS database for the member companies, a database containing ecotox data for offshore chemicals. The ecotox data in CHEMS are provided by the chemical suppliers and meet the requirements of the Harmonized Offshore Chemicals Notification Format (HOCNF) as stipulated by OSPAR (The Oslo-Paris Convention). Through the KPD Centre, the member companies share access to a common database. This is a good example of how oil companies can reduce their costs by sharing data and services.
